Movie Review - Cellular
By Reggie Bannister, Sat Dec 10th

Cellular - 2005 New Line Productions Inc.

I had a chance to watch Cellular the other day and my firstthought was that here we go with another spin-off of PhoneBooth, another movie with someone forced to stay on the phonefor 90 some minutes while we cringe in our seat. But, to mysurprise , this was actually a very enjoyable movie. I’m am notreally sure what genre to classify this movie in because it hasit all. Suspense, drama, action, comic relief; this movie haseverything. The movie begins with the kidnapping of JessicaMartin, played by Kim Bassinger. Jessica is a high schoolscience teacher, (that happens to wear fishnet stockings!!) whohas her home broken into and mysteriously taken away to anunknown location by the “bad guys” and placed in an attic. Theysmash the phone hanging on the wall and proceed to lock Jessicain the attic. Jessica then “rigs” the broken phone (remember -she’s a science teacher) and is able to randomly dial a phonenumber. Now enters Ryan, played by Chris Evans, he plays yourtypical early 20’s dude who’s only mission is to win back hisex-girlfriend. Jessica finds a live

number and lo and behold, itis Ryan’s cell phone. The movie then proceeds from there.Jessica cries out for someone she doesn’t know in a desperateplea for help. Ryan initially has the normal reaction thatanyone would have when receiving a call like this, but goesbeyond the call of duty in an effort to save a woman that hedoesn’t even know. I am not going to be the spoiler and this isall I am going to tell you, but this is a great sleeper movie. Is it a little far fetched? Yes, but so what. Forget about yourproblems and sit down and watch Cellular, I guarantee you wontbe disappointed!
